Racism does not clock out-- neither can antiracism.
Unraveled Threads of FreedomThis is your not-so-friendly call,
On Independence Day, a reminder for all. A prison system, slavery reborn, Modern policing from slave patrols torn. In this America, freedom's a lie, Many of us are not free, we sigh. Rights stripped away, thread by thread, 'Til the fabric of justice is left for dead. For Black Americans, freedom's a dream, For Trans Americans, it's a distant gleam. For those with uteruses, rights ebb away, In this America, dark clouds hold sway. Our friends aren't safe, we live in fear, Injustice reigns, year after year. This is not my land of the brave, Where liberty's shadow casts a grave. On this day of stars and stripes, I see the unraveling of human rights. This is not my America, I cry, Where freedom's promise is a lie. Dr. Sheva Guy July 4, 2024 |
