Cultural Competence in Psychology Research and Practice

We will explore:
  • Culturally-tailored clinical & research practices
  • Navigating diverse global environments
  • Intersections of culture & social power
Students will demonstrate:
  1. an understanding and appreciation of the intersection of culture, inequality, and social power
  2. a consideration for the relevance of culture in research, professional practice, and the workplace
  3. demonstrate knowledge of scientific evidence in diversity-related research and appropriate considerations and adaptations of research methods and interventions; and 4) the ability to function as members of society and future professionals with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
Given the need to work and live in a culturally diverse global environment, in this course we will explore culturally-tailored evidence-based clinical practices and research strategies. Activities will allow students to assess their own competencies, reflect on their own professional behavior, and develop a multicultural orientation towards health practices and research. Students will be expected to do substantial writing and presentations.
